Preorder Frenzy Pushes Samsung to Make a Million More Galaxy Z Fold 8 Units

Samsung is reportedly planning to produce an additional 1 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units in response to early demand. The brand has asked suppliers to prepare components for the added volume, according to the Korean outlet ETNews.

Samsung initially aimed to produce 2.8 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units, but a flurry of preorders across the three new foldable models—1.44 million in a week—set a new record for the Galaxy brand. (In 2019, the Galaxy Note 10 series achieved 1.38 million preorders.) About 70% of those preorders are said to be for the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The Fold 8 uses a squat 4:3 aspect ratio, unlike the taller 3:2 of earlier Galaxy Fold models. (The old design lives on through the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra.) Galaxy fans had been asking for a book-style foldable for years, and it’s clear that the Fold 8 hit the mark.

The 1 million additional Fold 8 units haven’t yet been accounted for; it simply means Samsung plans to sell more of the phones, as indicated by its strong early reception.
