Microsoft Merges Copilot Apps, Ditches Quirky ‘Mico’ Mascot

Microsoft has begun combining its consumer Copilot app and Microsoft 365 Copilot app into one updated Copilot experience. According to the company, this will make access simpler for people who use personal, work, or school Microsoft accounts. Users can sign in with both account types and switch between them in the same app.
The updated app will combine general Copilot chat, image creation, file uploads, and access to Microsoft 365 apps and content. Microsoft 365 subscribers will still receive higher usage limits and access to more AI tools and agents.
Microsoft will also retire Mico, Group Chat, Copilot Labs, Podcasts, and Deep Research in Copilot Voice, the surprisingly realistic conversational version of Copilot. Existing group chats will be transformed into individual chats with Copilot, AI-generated podcasts will no longer be an option, and existing episodes and shared podcast links will stop working. Reports already created through Deep Research will remain available through chat history for personal and family users.
Mico was never going to be Clippy, the beloved Microsoft Office Assistant known for offering the occasional comment in Microsoft Word, but now it won’t even have a chance at that level of popularity. Its only manifestation will be as a tutoring character in Learn Live.
