Want the New Steam Controller? You’ll Probably Have to Wait Until 2027
The new Steam Controller is so popular that many new buyers aren’t expected to receive their units until 2027. With demand exceeding Valve’s production capacity, Steam’s reservation system now lists delivery windows extending into late 2026 and 2027, with recent purchases expected to fall under the latter.
Valve launched the gamepad globally in early May 2026 at $99 in the US. The controller is for PC and Steam Deck players who want a gamepad that works for both console games and mouse games. Much of the accessory’s design mimics the Steam Deck’s, with dual trackpads, two analog thumbsticks, a plus‑shaped D‑pad, ABXY face buttons, triggers, bumpers, and four programmable rear-grip buttons. Reviewers say the controller feels like a mix of the original Steam Controller and the Steam Deck’s layout.
In a recent update, Valve said Steam Controller production is chugging along, but it wants buyers to have realistic expectations about when they may receive their controller. Interested customers need to join a reservation queue on Steam and complete their purchase within a 72‑hour window after Valve notifies them that their controller is ready for purchase.
