The tweet that Gunn posted (via ComicBook.com) said: “Today we had our first onset injury — and it was me! I was stung on the ear by a wasp!” As we know, the Wasp is a big Marvel comics character, played by Evangeline Lilly in “Ant-Man,” “Ant-Man and The Wasp” (the first time a female Marvel superhero had her name in the title), and this year’s “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.”
This, of course, sent fans into a frenzy, tweeting about how we might see Wasp in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film. You can hardly blame them. Marvel fans thrive on such speculation. We spend a lot of time searching every social media post/teaser trailer/piece of art, etc., trying to find any clue that might give us an idea of what’s in the works. At least I certainly do. Plus, this was before “Guardians” even hit theaters, and “Ant-Man” was another year away. Of course we’d speculate about such a thing.
That said, sometimes a wasp sting is just a wasp sting. Other than in polar regions, wasps are all over the world. They sting, and it does not feel good. Still, it’s always fun to go back and look at what we thought we saw in anything that appeared to be a clue. Plus, Gunn getting an onset injury that could even be taken as a clue is kind of, again … Marvel-ous.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is currently in theaters.
