3 in 10 HP Computers Still Run Windows 10

Windows 10 has been officially dead for a solid nine months now, but on HP computers, it’s still very much alive and well. Karen Parkhill, chief financial officer at HP, disclosed on a May 2026 investor call that among its PCs, it has “roughly 30% of the installed base still on Windows 10.”

Parkhill tied the remaining Windows 10 pool to future demand for replacement PCs, since many of those machines will need new hardware to run Windows 11. This poses a chicken-or-egg question, though, as many people have not upgraded to Windows 11 because they can’t afford new machines.

Though Microsoft ended standard support for Windows 10 in October 2025, the OS remains popular, especially because Microsoft has provided extended support via piecemealed years of free security updates. Consumer coverage now runs until Oct. 12, 2027—two whole years after the operating system’s so-called end of support.
