Meet the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung’s First Book-Style Foldable

Samsung unveiled the subject of the latest gossip in foldables at this week’s Samsung Unpacked: the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Unlike its predecessors, the Fold 8 consists of a book-style dual-screen design made up of a 7.6-inch primary display and a 5.5-inch cover screen.
The Fold 8 weighs a reported 201 grams, making it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold model Samsung has made so far. It runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a 4,800mAh battery and offers dual 50MP rear cameras: one primary sensor and one ultrawide. (That’s one back camera shaved off of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, for those keeping track.) Video recording reaches 8K resolution, but your selfies will come from a 10MP front-facing sensor.
Samsung says the wider design allows users to “move easily from quick interactions on the cover screen to deeper viewing, reading and gaming on the main display.” The main display uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X tech with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1848-by-2448 resolution, while the cover screen uses the same display technology with a 1972-by-1248 resolution.
In the US, Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at $1,899 for the 12GB memory and 256GB storage model, $2,099 for the 12GB + 512GB model, and $2,499 for the 16GB + 1TB model. Preorders are open now, with general availability expected to follow on August 7.
