Casio is preparing to launch the CRW-H001M-8, a version of its ring watch that incorporates health tracking and smartphone alerts. The model will come to China first for a USD equivalent of $294 (after local tax); it’s unclear so far whether Casio will bring it to other markets later.
The CRW-H001M-8 can record a user’s heart rate, blood oxygen, body temperature, sleep, steps, and calories burned during walking, running, and cycling. It also links with Casio’s phone app, which is available for iOS, Android, and selected Huawei HarmonyOS devices. Through this connection, the tiny finger-watch can deliver vibration alerts for calls, messages, alarms, and certain health notifications, Engadget reports.
Casio reports an average single-charge battery life of 4 to 6 days. The CRW-H001M-8 is in silver only (for now), and comes in sizes 9, 10, and 11, making it pretty much exclusive to those with larger hands.
This isn’t Casio’s first ring watch, but earlier models—which are available in the US—have focused entirely on timekeeping. The CRW-H001M-8 is the first to feature biometric tracking and app connectivity, making it more of a health-oriented wearable.
Hopefully, user experiences will tell us soon whether the built-in sensors are actually worth their salt.
