Samsung Announces UFS 5.0 With 2x the Speed of UFS 4.1
Samsung has announced its new UFS 5.0 mobile storage solution, which it claims is the fastest in the industry. UFS 5.0 uses a new generation of Samsung V‑NAND and implements the latest JEDEC UFS 5.0 standard to deliver higher performance and efficiency than current UFS 4.1 options.
As rumored last year, Samsung’s UFS 5.0 reaches a reported data transfer speed of up to 10.8GB/s—the industry’s highest so far and roughly double that of its existing UFS 4.1. Sequential read speeds also go up to 10.8GB/s, while sequential write speeds reach about 9.5GB/s. The company also highlights gains in random access and latency, which are useful for AI workloads that constantly access small portions of data and model parameters.
UFS 5.0 is said to offer power efficiency improvements, too: Samsung reports a 40% improvement in energy efficiency compared to UFS 4.1.
The solution comes in a compact package measuring roughly 7.5 by 13 by 0.9 millimeters and supports up to 1TB of storage, making it potentially suitable for a wide range of mobile devices.
Samsung expects mass production of UFS 5.0 to begin in 2026 Q4.
