The AI Zombie Takes a Bite Out of Apple

Apple has raised Mac and iPad prices globally, effective immediately. While iPhone, Apple Watch, and other Apple products are not affected, productivity-focused devices are now $100 to $500 more expensive than they were earlier this week.

Here are the updated prices in the United States:

  • Base model MacBook Air: $1,299 (up $200 from $1,099)

  • Base model MacBook Pro: $1,999 (up $300 from $1,699)

  • MacBook Neo: $699 (up $100 from $599)

  • Desktop Mac Studio M4 Max: $2,499 (up $500 from $1,999)

  • Entry-level iPad: $449 (up $100 from $349)

  • Entry-level iPad Air: $749 (up $150 from $599)

  • 11-inch iPad Pro: $1,199 (up $200 from $999)

  • iPad Mini: $599 (up $100 from $499)

The big jumps are tied to soaring costs of memory and storage chips in the AI hardware cycle. Though iPhone prices are safe for now, we wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone 18 lineup is especially pricey when it launches this fall.

Just when Apple products were finally beginning to feel a bit more affordable to the masses, the brand got chomped by the AI zombie. The likelihood of meaningful price relief is unlikely until 2028.
